Homines Urbani – Katarzyna Surmiak-Domańska

The Homines Urbani scholarship program, organized by the Villa Decius Association since 2002, supports writers, translators, and journalists. Its aim is to provide space for creative work, exchange of experiences, and intercultural dialogue. Residents develop their literary projects in the inspiring environment of Kraków, while engaging with the local artistic community.

The final conference of the Triangle for Ukrainian Artists (TUA) project has come to an end. For two years, together with partners from Sweden, Ukraine, and Poland, we explored how culture – especially theatre – can function and grow in times of war and crisis.
Visiting Marcelina – A Look Back at a September Gathering

On Saturday, 21 September 2025, Villa Decius once again became a meeting place for those interested in history, the arts, and herstory. This year’s edition of “Visiting Marcelina” transported participants to 19th-century Kraków, where Duchess Marcelina Czartoryska – philanthropist, accomplished pianist, and owner of the Villa from 1869 to 1894 – hosted one of the city’s most renowned cultural salons.

Between 2 and 5 September 2025, Kraków became the global capital of free expression. The closing gala of the 91st PEN International Congress was held at Villa Decius.

The jury has chosen the participants of this year’s Screenwriting Residency Program at Villa Decius, part of the Forum of Cultures Dialogue. For one month, authors from Poland and Germany will live and work in Kraków, developing their texts and engaging with the theatre, literary, and film communities.
